Characteristics:
Look for the manufacturer's name or trademark, part number and country of origin.
Many manufacturers of snap-in valves have mold cavity numbers on their valves for better traceability.
Not all manufacturers supply the proper information on their valves, but the more information you see,the more likely the manufacturer is reputable, produces a quality product and stands behind it.
Testing:
All snap-in valve stems must be made with EPDM synthetic rubber rather than natural rubber to meet SAE ozone requirements.
EPDM rubber also has a broader temperature range than natural rubber and will remain flexible in extremely cold weather.
What to look for:
No brand name or country of origin,Who is the manufacturer ? Can consistent product quality be verified ? Who is responsible in case of a valve failure ?
Specifications:
Good quality valve stems conform to SAE J1205-J1206 Standards setting the performance criteria for heat resistance, aging and ozone resistance. Most valves have a Tire & Rim Association TR number, for example TR413,TR418 etc. This number does not guarantee a specific level of quality, however it does indicate that the manufacturer should have produced the product to confirm to published dimensional standards. The Tire & Rim Association publishes a yearbook listing standards for valve stem dimensional tolerances, but the group does not get involved with performance standards.
Quality:
There are three quality levels of valves are produced due to different requirement in usage:
The first one is premium brass valve core, the second one is aluminimum valve core, the third one is zinc valve core.
